LIIAR Analysis of East Riding College.

LIIAR Analysis of East Riding College magazine-

Language-

I don’t personally think that this is a very good example of a college magazine, this is because for a start they have been very unconventional with their placing of the masthead, this is because mastheads are usually placed either in the left or right top hand corner of the page, I therefore think that this space could have been better if they had moved the masthead to the left hand corner and then put a thumbnail image of the college logo in the right hand corner. Another issue that I have with this magazine is the house style they have used on the front page, this is because they have used black and white which is really boring and doesn’t really make people want to read it.

Also the image they have used is unconventional, this is because they haven’t used a medium close up image, this is odd because most magazines will use a medium close up, this gives it a more professional look. I also think that the image is of very poor quality and without the anchorage people wouldn’t understand what it was about, this is probably the only conventional item on the front page. Another thing is that on the contents page the colour scheme changes, this is because a green block is used under the text, this makes the magazine look quite unprofessional as there isn’t a consistent colour scheme and another thing is that the borders around the thumbnail images are of inconsistent sizes, this should also be kept the same to make it look like it was made by a professional and not a 6 year old.

Institution-

The institution this magazine represents is East Riding College, it will be designed for 15-19 year olds who may consider going to college after they’ve finished school, this magazine doesn’t represent East Riding College very well as It is poor in my opinion.

Ideology-

The ideology behind this magazine will be to show how good the college is and also what sort of environment they have at East Riding. It will be there to represent the idea of good education in a friendly place to be educated.

Audience-

The audience this magazine will try to draw in is people of the age 15-19, this is because they will obviously want to attract the best students to their college.

Representation-

I don’t think that this magazine really meets up to usual stereotypes you’d expect of a magazine, this is because the masthead isn’t in the place you’d expect and also the image isn’t a medium close up. This isn’t done very well as it doesn’t really give anything to the magazine by not meeting these conventions.
